Meet Jamie Wimberly
- What classes do you currently teach?
I currently teach CXWORX on Monday mornings at Elite-Brookfield and will be adding BODYPUMP on the schedule in the near future. I am certified in BODYPUMP, CXWORX, LES MILLS TONE and GRIT Series and hold my AFAA GXI certification.
- How long have you been teaching group exercise?
I was a group fitness participant for many years prior to becoming an instructor 12 years ago in Indiana.
- What made you want to start teaching group exercise?
I met an instructor who invited me to her spin class. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the classes, the participants, and when I was approached to consider becoming an instructor, it was unquestionable, I was forever hooked. The people, the commitment, and the connection are like nothing else.
- What is your favorite part about teaching your class(es)?
Meeting new people, hearing their personal stories, and watching their successes in and out of the gym. Then watching those same people become a part of your “regular” crew. Some of the strongest relationships I have formed and still maintain are the result of teaching and participating in group fitness classes.
- What is your favorite song or style of music to teach to?
My taste in music is very eclectic – House, Dance, Pop, and Latin. I like songs with a really strong beat and make you smile or clap your hands the minute they are played on the stereo.
- What is your favorite exercise to do in your class?
- How do you stay active outside of your own classes?
My husband and I both love to be outdoors. We own a fishing boat and spend a lot of time on the water. We are both avid cyclists and love to take long trail rides together. I occasionally also participate in marathon runs and extreme obstacle course races.
- What else do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Whether it’s local or a road trip away, discovering a new favorite food or restaurant is one of my favorite things to do. Being a foodie, the “where should we eat?” is a challenge I am always willing to accept!
- What advice do you give people who are coming into your classes for the first time?
If you step through my door, you are already a winner in my eyes. Taking a new class, having a new instructor, or being new to group fitness can be very intimidating but just know that I am 110% an advocate for you and will provide a safe and enjoyable experience.
- What personal advice do you give someone who is looking to get to a healthier point in their life?
Being healthy and active comes in many forms but it doesn’t mean spending endless hours in the gym. Find an activity, class, or group that makes that part of your day better and something you look forward to doing. This will help you achieve a continued commitment and consistency in the long term. It is also key to discover a healthy balanced relationship with food. Food should not be viewed in terms of punishment or reward but more importantly fuel for your body, mind, and soul. When you are physically active and eating healthy, you will reap the rewards in many dimensions of your life.
