The New Year presents an opportunity to make a change. Every January 1st, people set goals, or resolutions, on what they want to accomplish. Setting a fitness goal gives you something to work towards and motivation to start in the first place. The problem, however, is that by the end of January, a lot of people have given up or lose momentum. The key is to turn your fitness resolutions into year-long habits.
Be Consistent
Consistency comes from creating a workout schedule. Set days aside that you plan to exercise. You might want to dedicate certain days for strength training, some for cardio exercise, and some to take your favorite group exercise classes (included with your Elite Sports Clubs membership).
In order to make your resolutions stick, you need to treat every month like January. Motivation is high when you first start out. You’re fully committed, you stick to your workout schedule, and you make sure you don’t miss a workout. So why treat other months any different? Think of the 1st day of every month as a new beginning. If you keep the same mindset as January, you’ll motivate yourself for the rest of the year. Once you get through two or three months, your workout schedule will become part of your normal routine and it will feel far less difficult. Remember, the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.
Be Patient
Rome wasn’t built in a day. A lot of people give up on their fitness resolutions because they don’t think they’re making progress and then lose motivation to continue. You won’t see results immediately. Slow progress is better than none at all. You should track your progress with checkpoints along the way. Don’t worry if you miss one. This could mean that your timeline was a little too ambitious in the first place. Besides, life happens and things get in the way. You can simply adjust your progress timeline and get right back to work.
Be Tough
You’ll face struggles along the way. Your muscles will ache. You’ll be fatigued. You’ll hit plateaus from time to time. Just be tough and push through. The Elite Sports Clubs community is full or supportive members, many of whom have similar fitness resolutions as you. If you find difficulty holding yourself accountable, seek others to do it for you, such as workout buddies or a personal trainer. Many of our fitness staff have been in a similar situation as you, so they can share their knowledge and experience to ensure you meet your goals.
