5 Basic Dog Exercises for You & Your Furry Friend

We all know that dogs make awesome companions. They are outstanding listeners, are excited when we get home, and rarely ever talk back! As far as an exercise buddy they rate at the very top. They don’t have the excuses that human workout buddies come up with from time to time. Here are some fun dog exercises to get you and your dog moving together.

Try these fun Dog Exercises:

Establish a Walking Schedule

Shoot for at least 30 minutes total of walking your dog each day. Break it up into smaller sessions if you need to. 10 minutes before work and 20 minutes when you get home from work. Your dog will be okay if you go longer and you will too! If you schedule a dog walk in each day you will feel more responsible to keep with it. Your dog will also be in the groove and will expect the exercise.

Fetching Ab Twist

Have your dog sit and stay. Grab one of their favorite toys. Sit on the ground and get into a crunch position. Crunch up and throw the toy. While your pup is fetching, you rotate your torso to the right and left working your oblique muscles. Repeat 10 times.

High Five Squats

If you can pick up your dog do it and use them as additional weight and do squats while holding them. If they are too big have them sit in front of you. While you squat, high five your pup! If they haven’t learned the high five yet, give them a pat on the head. Do 3 sets of 10 squats.

Race Your Dog

Set up a start and finish line in your backyard. Ready, set, go! You can also do a fast walk. Use a leash if your dog needs extra practice.

Downward Dog

Dogs do this yoga pose naturally as a stretch. Work it into your routine.
