Elite Sports Clubs are Milwaukee’s premier family and fitness clubs with 5 locations across Milwaukee, three of which have indoor and outdoor saltwater swimming pools. We boast a comprehensive lineup of exercise classes, including water exercise classes. The most popular of these types of classes is water aerobics, or what we call H2O Blast. You can currently find water aerobics several days out of the week at our River Glen and Mequon locations.

H2O Blast is a joint-friendly, chest-deep water aerobics workout includes calisthenics-style exercises with upper and lower body variations. March, jog, and ski against water resistance to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscle endurance, and flexibility. Floating dumbbells and other buoyancy tools are used to add both resistance and stability in the water.

What Makes Water Aerobics Ideal for Seniors?

Aquatics exercise classes are ideal for those who suffer from joint pain such as arthritis, back problems, foot or leg injuries, and knee conditions. These classes are low impact in nature, meaning your body’s buoyancy makes you about 90% lighter than on land.

Don’t think they are any less challenging, however. Because the water is constantly adjusting its shape to accommodate your movements, you will definitely feel the burn during water aerobics. It compresses your skin, muscles, and joints via a concept called hydrostatic pressure. This concept forces the heart and lungs to work harder because the chest cavity is under direct pressure.

Water is viscous, meaning it provides natural resistance to move through. Creating more resistance by cupping the water or using special floating dumbbells will help you build strength even faster.
