The Right Balance for You

The Right Balance for You

Being on-the-go every day can be a struggle for many people when it comes to finding balance. For example, it is hard to find a healthy breakfast to take with you on your morning commute. Sometimes it is just a cup of coffee or energy drink you grab in the morning instead of a protein bar. Our busy lives get in the way of us focusing on what you are putting into your body. Finding balance in fitness and healthy eating will make a person feel more productive and less sluggish throughout the day. Although, the hardest part about finding that balance is keeping that balance.

What Constitutes a Healthy Balance?

A healthy balance does not only mean healthy food. A healthy balance also means healthy habits, a healthy social environment, physical environment, and having healthy environmental influences.

Some individuals plan their day around food, others forget to eat because their day is chaotic. Both situations are unhealthy. Regulating your food intake is a good start to a healthy balance. This may seem like a lot of work, but we promise it is not as hard as it may seem. To aim for a healthy balance in life, it is important to first understand what you are doing wrong. Do you wake up and immediately grab pizza from the night before? Do you grab a soda? Eat a powdered doughnut? Sleep in too late, then rush out the door so you’re not late for work? Or rushing to drop your children off at school? Don’t go to sleep until 3 am when you have to wake up at 6 am? If you answered yes to any of these, then there may need to be a lifestyle change to support your mental and physical wellness.

Granted, some individuals do not eat breakfast in the morning and some can live off of three hours of sleep. It all depends on what your body needs. If you can get by with three hours of sleep, then, by all means, continue to do that. If you are up at 3 am staring at the ceiling due to stress, there needs to be a change in your lifestyle.

Stress can play a major role in our lifestyles by:

  • Indulging in unhealthy foods
  • Consuming too much alcohol
  • Can cause insomnia
  • Affect your mood negatively
  • Inability to focus
  • Constantly worrying

Even taking a few minutes to breathe each day can help lower stress levels. Stress influences our daily lives and affects our lives more than people realize.

How to Start Balancing Your Life

Finding that starting point for balance is the hardest part because you need to analyze your life. That could lead someone to denial, so it is important to be honest with yourself. The first step to making a change is identifying that a change needs to be made in the first place.

It is recommended that an adult should exercise thirty minutes daily. There is always a way to find time to exercise, especially if you build it into your schedule. Even if you can’t make it to the gym, there are plenty of resources that allow you to exercise right in your own home – like Fitness Blender. These free workout videos are great if you can’t find time to commute to the gym.

It all starts with that one small step to change, like starting with those thirty-minute daily workouts, eating an apple in the morning instead of a doughnut, regulating your food intake, and managing your stress that will help you balance your lifestyle. There is no right or wrong way to find your balance.

You just need to find the balance that is right for YOU.
