Every year it seems to happen, the great migration. Yes, the great migration occurs in January when people flock to the gym to get started on their New Year’s Resolution of working out more. These people often give up after a few months and migrate right back to their old lifestyle. You don’t have to be one of those people.
Don’t wait until January 1st to start your New Year’s health and fitness resolution. It is important to think of health and fitness as a lifestyle not as a yearlong pursuit. Consider this, if you workout and eat healthy for one year, you will likely lose weight and perhaps reach your fitness goals. But, if you stop after the year is over, you will simply gain it all back. Starting now puts you in the right mind set for creating a health and fitness plan that can take you through the rest of your life. Don’t let your fear of commitment or the desire to eat unhealthy foods and not exercise until the new year begins deter you from reaching your goals.
Here are some tips to turn your resolution into a lifestyle.
- Set a realistic plan that you can live with. Make your plan challenging yet something that you can maintain on a daily basis. Don’t plan to exercise everyday if you know that you only have time to exercise 5 times a week.
- Make workouts fun. If you enjoy your workouts, you will be more likely to do them. So sign up for fun classes, workout with friends and join workout events and challenges. One great way to do this is with the Elite Sports Clubs Team Weight Loss Challenge. It provides a team atmosphere, access to a certified dietitian, a 6-week fat-burning training plan designed by our Elite personal training coaches and more.
- Plan ahead. Planning ahead can help prevent the stress of trying to fit in a workout and can help you keep your fitness appointments. Schedule your fitness classes and workouts for an entire month so that you can have clear and simple action plan. Also, try making healthy meals the night before or make a large amount over the weekend .This way you will always have healthy food on hand.
- Look to your future and celebrate the present. Visualize the person that you want yourself to be. This can help to motivate you when you just don’t feel like exercising. It is also important to celebrate your successes. This acts as motivation and a reward. Set a goal at the beginning of the month and select a corresponding reward whether it’s a massage, some new workout gear or a manicure. Pick something that will motivate you. Once you reach the goal, enjoy your reward. You’ve earned it!
The sooner you start your health and fitness lifestyle, the sooner you will be able to enjoy a happier, healthier life.
