Why Leisure Activities are Good for You

How much time for leisure do you set aside for yourself? For most, the answer is always “not enough” and on the rare occasion we do, we never really step away from work and life’s daily demands. When was the last time you took a day – or even a few hours – without checking your phone, emails, task lists, and deadline worries to do something you enjoy, something fun?

Not taking enough time for yourself to unwind by doing a fun activity, without any of the heavy weight, concern or worry for work or daily duties wreaks havoc on our health. Life is busy, there’s never enough time for everything, that’s not news to you. But always being on the go makes for a lot of stress. That constant stress is what strains health affecting your mind, body and behavior, left to run rampant, stress can cause:

  • Decreased immune system function
  • Irritability
  • Digestive disorders and ulcers
  • Depression
  • Heart problems and high blood pressure
  • Lack of motivation and decreased quality of work
