Cardio Tennis: Conditioning for Your Next Match

Cardio Tennis - Conditioning for Your Next Match

Want to condition yourself for your next tennis match? Are you tired of the monotony of typical cardio workouts? Try cardio tennis classes!

What is Cardio Tennis?

Cardio tennis is a group fitness program that incorporates tennis drills, games, and dynamic movements led by a certified tennis professional. You are still “playing” tennis, but the focus is on the exercise. So you will be hitting forehands, backhands, and volleys fed by the tennis pro, but it’s all about keeping you moving and reaching your target heart rate zone. Much like interval training, you’ll experience bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by short periods of rest. It’s a fun group activity with a social component where players of all abilities can enjoy tennis together.

A typical cardio tennis session involves a warm-up, aerobic movements, light hitting, and a cool down all set to energetic music. The instructor will mix it up each time you come to class so it always feels fresh and exciting.

Why Participate in Cardio Tennis Classes?

Why would a tennis player participate in cardio tennis classes when they can just play ordinary tennis? Well, the main focus here is an actual cardio workout, hence the name. The objective is to burn calories, much like a group fitness class (ie spin class). Your heart rate will certainly be elevated through rapid movements all over the court.

Not only will you sweat it out, you’ll also be building strength primarily in your lower body muscle groups. You will improve your footwork and movement on the court as well.
