We’re extremely proud of our members. Over the years their work out agendas and sporting endeavors serve as healthy examples of how it feels to be “Elite,” and how exercise not only adds years to your life, but life to your years! Today we’d like to highlight another member’s experience:
The following story was submitted by Scott Eigenberg in Member Services at Elite Sports Club-Brookfield.
Tina Horner is a real success story at the club.
She had never worked out or been active in her life. OH yeah, did I mention she is 50? Never worked out in her life!
Now she is playing tennis, working with a trainer, and doing daily workouts. She is already 50lbs down since she started with Elite in October and inching closer and closer to her goal weight of 150. She is not great at tennis…yet…but swears she will be giving seasoned players a run for their money soon.
So how did this happen?
It all started when Elite member and owner of AIR TECHNOLOGIES, Mike Majewski, decided to invest in the health and well-being of his employees by paying for their gym memberships at Elite. To help kick off their new memberships, he worked with Elite staff to run a fitness challenge for everyone who wanted to take advantage of his offer.
This is when Tina’s competitive streak kicked in. As mentioned, she hadn’t really worked out or been active before, but she also hated to lose and more importantly did not want to let down her teammates in the challenge.
This was just the start. She ended up winning her company challenge and was then looking for a new way to keep herself motivated.
The timing was perfect and she entered the New Year’s Weight Loss Challenge at Elite. She worked with trainer Kelly Donohue weekly and kept a log of her daily diet. Week by week she continued to lose and her team ended up getting second place out of over 100 teams.
During the weight loss challenge, she participated in the cardio tennis class offered to participants. Low and behold, she found she loves the sport and can’t get enough of it.
This summer, Tina plans to be on the court daily, taking advantage of the free court time in June, July, and August; as well as participate in different drills to work on her game. For Tina, staying active at Elite is now a way of life.
This just goes to show how you never know what can inspire and change someone. A series of small choices lead people to places they never imagined. There is no turning back now!
